Mono-Extruded & Co-Extruded Fence Profile

Vinyl or Polyvinyl chloride fences have greater appeal for the property owners. There are various designs available for these, appear like post and rail fencing. The people who are looking for a maintenance free fence can opt for the vinyl fences.

Vinyl fences are made of significantly the same material as the vinyl siding and vinyl windows. For ensuring more quality product, vinyl fences need careful process controls during their manufacturing. Sometimes many manufacturers offer lengthy warranties, but this does not mean that the quality is fine.

The two ways for manufacturing the vinyl fence include mono-extrusion and co-extrusion. You can buy your product based on these two methods. Mono-extruded fence profile in the sizes such as 2x6, 5x5, etc. are made from the one layer of material. This process involves the UV inhibitors that protect the vinyl from the sunlight. This UV inhibitor is the most costly thing in the extrusion formula. Mono-extruded products cost more for production, so it means that you also have to pay more for buying it.

Co-extruded fence profile is made up of the two layers, an outer layer that contains the UV inhibitor and an inside layer with the low UV protection. The lower costs of the co-extruded vinyl makes it slightly more affordable product without giving up the quality. Since co-extrusion can result in substrate material’s different color, a scratch on a co-extruded fence reveals the substrate color like a car reveals its undercoat color. However, many manufacturers make the outside layer thicker enough.

Wood Fencing & Vinyl Fencing

Fencing is very important for the protection of the house as well as for its landscape. There are many types of the fences available in the market, but PVC and vinyl fencing are popular ones.

Wood fencing is also a product of choice of many homeowners. The designs of these fences vary from the split rail, spaced-picket, solid board, lattice top, ranch rail, basket weave and so on. Wood fencing can be costly for maintaining, as much as $.70 per foot per year. The maintenance cost of the wood fences is also much. You should treat wood against the rot, insect infestation and decay. Cedar and red wood made fences have natural preservatives and last longer than other woods.

Vinyl or PVC fencing offers a faux wood appearance without any more maintenance. Each year the sales of the vinyl fencing increase by 20%. Vinyl fencing is also costly, it can cost more than wood, but there are no maintenance costs once it is installed. You can calculate the actual figures and then only you will know the fact about it. Wood fences require repainting after every two or three years, and these can actually cost far more than a vinyl fence.

The reason behind high costing of the vinyl fencing is ‘titanium dioxide’; it is layered onto the PVC as it can absorb and reflect the ultraviolet rays, to prevent the vinyl from cracking or chipping. The manufacturers of the vinyl fence have designed lattice accents as well as the post, picket, and rail styles. Remember, the more titanium dioxide layered on the fence, the more its price would be.
